The most profound MISNOMER of our time - THE UNITED NATIONS

The United Nations turns 63 this October. I felt the need to make a few comments about this organizations track record. The first thing I noticed was their preamble and the noble ideas contained therein.

Thus the purpose for which they exits is as follows, "to maintain international peace and security; to develop friendly relations among nations; to cooperate in solving international economic, social, cultural and humanitarian problems and in promoting respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms; and to be a centre for harmonizing the actions of nations in attaining these ends."

While it is tempting to take each point to task and explain how, when, where and how often the failures occurred I leave it to you to do your own homework. My position is that the U.N. has proven itself an impotent, expensive and a catastrophe for all Americans. In 63 years we have borrowed TRILLIONS to fund this organization and have provided little more than a soap box for every despot on the planet. We have indebted our children and abdicated our responsibilities to the U.S. citizen.

As we grapple with the litany of issues here at home where the current focus is on the high cost of energy and the ancillary burdens that accompany this commodity we must reconsider how we spend money. I purpose that we withdraw from the United Nations and turn the current building into public housing. Reintroduce the teaching of nationalism in our schools and remember that charity begins at home. One last thought by way of a question. Would this money be better spent on health care?
